Here at Shalamar, we are preparing to comply with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR. You may have heard the term recently in connection with privacy and the handling of personal identifying information, such as the recent debacles with Facebook and other companies that have not adequately protected their consumers' data.
Although we are located in the United States, we are changing our data collection practices a bit with respect to our current and future clients, customers, and friends in the EU. These regulations are some of the toughest out there right now, so we feel that complying with them will also benefit our contacts beyond the immediate reach of the GDPR, which will go into effect on 25 May.
To that end, we are asking everyone on our email lists to opt into (or opt out of) our email marketing lists. We will be deactivating all of our current lists around the 25th to ensure that we are only sending emails to people who have specifically signed up for them.
As a reminder, we never share your email addresses or any of the other details you may share with us with anyone else. That has always been our stance, and we are taking this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the safety of your data and the trust you have put in us.
To opt into continuing to receive Shalamar's emails, please click here. It will take you to a very brief signup form that will add you to our new GDPR-compliant list. If you take no action, you will automatically cease to receive future emails (because you won't be on an active list).
In case you've forgotten when you opted into our emails in the first place, you more than likely hit the Subscribe button on our Contact Us page, met a Shalamar representative at an entrepreneurship festival, signed up for an author service such as manuscript editing, bought a book by one of our authors, or are a media contact of Deborah Dixon's. If none of these seem to apply, feel free to email us and we'll sort it out.
